At Santiago Airport

Our flight to Madrid boards in an hour.  It has been a truly amazing pilgrimage. Here are a few more pictures.

English Mass in the Cathedral was celebrated by a lovely priest from County Cork in Ireland. Lining the walls are slips of papers with prayer requests by pilgrims. These are remembered at each Mass.

In addition to the Cathedral, there are some 31 churches in Santiago - one more beautiful than the other.

This was one of the more unusual crucifixes we saw in a church on the wY to Finasterra. Jesus has long real hair.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Looking forward to my first Whopper.

Friday Morning

Another beautiful day in Spain. Today we travelled to Finasterra - an awesome spot indeed. Here are a few pictures from there.

And to celebrate our last night in Santiago, we had an ox t-bone. Quite delicious.

Thursday Morning

Today we are going to Finastera - the 'end of the earth'. Here are a few pictures from our exciting trek to the roof of the great cathedral of St. James. A bit nerve wracking but great views.

Santiago Espana

Words and pictures could never capture the emotion if seeing the Catedral de Santiago for the first time or attending the Pilgrim's Mass. We have our Compestella which certifies that we walked the Camino de Santiago. Here are a few more pictures:

The rain could not dampen our spirits.

This is where they check your credentials and issue you the certificate which is yours forever.

So impossible to capture the beauty of the church.

We had a lovely farewell dinner last evening. Marly Tours is the best.

Monday Afternoon

We are about three miles from the Cathedral in Santiago. We will be there n time for the Pilgrim's Mass on Tuesday.

It is from this point that St. John Paul II walked into Santiago. We are walking in the footsteps of Saints.

The path is often through the narrow door.

Off and on rain today.

We began at K. 103. A long, long walk.

Our destination!!!!

Sunday Afternoon

We are inching ever so much closer to Santiago. We will arrive in time for the Pilgrim's Mass at noon on Tuesday.

Here are a few more pictures to share with you of our amazing (and often difficult) journey.

At 8 pm Mass last evening, the Pilgrims in attendance were called up for a special blessing.

Mile post indicating that we have 20 km to go (we started at 103).

Our lovely room for the next two nights.

And our view of the Spanish countryside from our room.

Saturday Afternoon

The long and winding road to Santiago continues. 2/3 of the way there.

Friday Afternoon

We have been walking for 4 days now and have completed some 32 miles of the Camino de Santiago. We have seen some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world and met some wonderful people.

This is a man who is cycling the Camino with a prosthetic leg. He is also raising  money to compete in the Special Olympics as a weightlifter.

Here is a gentleman we met who runs a restaurant specializing in octopus.

Perhaps one of the most moving crucixes  I have ever seen. Jesus is reaching out to us from the Cross.  "Come to me, all you who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest."

The view from our window. Lovely accommodations again.

Buen Camino.

Thursday Afternoon

A long, hard, beautiful walk.

We started out in the fog.

Some pilgrims are on horseback.

42 km done. 61 to Santiago.

Watching those crazy pilgrims walking by.

The last part of our walk today. Awesome.

Wednesday Day 2 of Walking

Such an amazing first day. The Camino is full of surprises and lessons. Here are a few pictures:

The first day took us through some beautiful countryside, through forests and  some quaint little villages.

This is the church of St. Nicholas in Portomarin. It was moved from its original location to higher ground stone by stone.

There is always a sign, an arrow, or in this case St. James himself to point The Way.

Just one more picture of the beautiful sights which are so hard to capture in pictures or explain in words.
